Bochum, Germany. 1944-11. Aerial view of Bochum, after attacks by RAF Bomber Command. The area covered by it is 250 gross acres of built-up area destroyed. Note particularly the tremendous devastation in the great steel works shown in the bottom right quarter of the photograph.On the left are the halls and factories of the "Bochumer Verein" steel works. The main street from bottom to top in the middle is Alleestrasse. On the right is the working-class district of Griesenbruch with Moltkeplatz (now Springerplatz). The "Gussstahlstrecke" railway runs from left to right in the middle. Top left, the triangular square, is the "Platz der SA" (today Imbuschplatz). The dominant quadrangular building in the top center is the Bochum City Hall. Next to it on the right is the post office and the Schlegel brewery.
