English: The Wingolfshaus in Giessen is located at Wilhelmstrasse 40 in the upper university district and serves the fraternity as a corporation house as well as a student dormitory with eleven rentable rooms. The listed building was built according to plans by the architectural firm Stein & Meyer and was inaugurated on July 18, 1894 as one of the first houses in this quarter. After the dissolution of the Giessen Wingolf in 1935, the federal archives of the Wingolf Federation were set up in the Kneipetage; it was not until 1943 that the army administration confiscated part of the house and set up a kindergarten for the National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV) there. Unlike other corporate houses in Giessen, the Wingolfshaus was only affected by bombs in the immediate vicinity during the air raid of December 6, 1944, but was subsequently looted several times. Due to the widespread destruction of the city center, municipal institutions - a registry office and a women's labor school - were henceforth housed in the house. On April 30, 1947, the entire house was confiscated by the American military government, subsequently renovated and used as a youth home (German Youth Activities, GYA). Since 1957 the building is again in the possession of the Giessen Wingolf.
