From the Schloss there is an excellent view ofthe long procession as it at last comes slowly upthe Linden. It stops at the Brandenburger Tor,where the Burger-Meister—the Lord Mayor ofBerlin—has the pleasing duty of making a speechof welcome to the bride, who is expected to make

A bouquet is also pre-sented by one of a galaxy of palpitating white-clad maidens, and, headed by the black-coatedbutchers, amid the fluttering pennons of the Uhlansthe big coach swings slowly on its way, the bridesmiling and bowing incessantly. Never was anyonemore joyously responsive than the future Crown-Princess, who possesses in a high degree thatcapacity for appearing pleased and amused whichis so invaluable to royalties. She probably doesnot know how to look bored. The world is toher an intensely amusing, interesting place. Thatday she drove triumphantly into the hearts ofthe people, where she has remained enthronedever since—a stimulating, charming presence.
