Sebastian Hasenstab-Riedel (* 5. September 1975 in Groß-Gerau) he is an german chemist and professor at the Freien Universität Berlin.
CV
BearbeitenSebastian Hasenstab-Riedel was trained as a chemical laboratory technician at Siemens and Degussa in Hanau, which he completed in 1996. In 1998 he studied chemistry, initially at the University of Siegen, and after the Vordiplom he switched to the University of Würzburg, where he completed his studies in 2003. After his doctorate in Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Würzburg in 2006 with Martin Kaupp, he started a postdoc at the University of Helsinki at the lab of Pekka Pyykkö Theoretical Chemistry and Markku Räsänen, Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy. Afterwards a second Postdoc stay with Gary Schrobilgen at the McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada was finished.[1] He habilitated in 2013 at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, mentor Ingo Krossing. In the same year he accepted a call as full professor (W3 professorship) at the Freie Universität Berlin, succeeding Konrad Seppelt. In 2021 he declined a call to the University of Münster and was appointed as Einstein Professor of the Einstein Foundation Berlin in the same year.[2]
Among other things, Sebastian Hasenstab-Riedel is on the board of the AG Fluorchemie and the Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry of the German Chemical Society GDCh. Since 2019 he has been spokesman of the collaborative research center Sonderforschungsbereich "Fluorine-Specific Interactions" (CRC1349).[3]
He is married and has three children.
Research
BearbeitenThe focus of his research is related to halogen chemistry with a special focus on the elements fluorine and chlorine. His research at the FU Berlin focuses on the investigation of fluorine-specific interactions (CRC1349), strong oxidizers, high oxidation states, superacids, peroxides, polyhalides and halogen storage materials. Particular attention is paid to the development of more sustainable industrial halogen chemistry[4].[5]
