Alano Montanari was an Italian Grand Prix motorcycle racer. His best season was 1953, when he finished fifth in the 250 cm3 World Motorcycle Championship.

A native of Cesena in Romagna region, Italy, Alano Montanari came to prominence in the late 1940s. In 1951 he finished fourth in the Italian Motorcycle Championship, 250 cm3 class. He chased the national title until 1957, when he became the Italian Champion in the 350 cm3 class, riding a Moto Guzzi, beating Libero Liberati and earning two outright wins at Ravenna and Modena. He made his debut in the World Motorcycle Championship in 1950, scoring two second places in 250 and a third in the 350 cm3 class.

In 1958 Alano Montanari, who was now 50, was still riding as test rider for Moto Guzzi. In late July of that year he was involved in a road accident, trying to avoid an ambulance. Seriously injured, he was taken to hospital by the same ambulance. He had some broken ribs and was discharged from the hospital in a plaster bust, which he soon took off to ride his motorcycle. But while testing his bike he fell down once again, suffering shoulder injuries.

Alano Montanari never recovered and less than three weeks later he passed away at Bufalini Hospital in his hometown Cesena, on Sunday, 17 August 1958 night, victim of septicemia. The circumstances of his death are still uncertain. It is believed that his fractured ribs could have been a contributory cause.
