- The group was a regular feature on two of the shows that aired over KHOL-TV. One was the "Midwest Jamboree" that aired weekly "live" from 10:30pm to 12 midnight. Ace Cannon

BearbeitenCannon wurde 1934 in Grenada geboren und begann mit 10 Jahren, Saxophon zu spielen. Sein Vater spielte professionell Fiddle und Gitarre in der Umgebung von Memphis, Tennessee. Als Jugendlicher spielte Cannon bereits in Clubs und Bars, obwohl er noch zu jung dafür war und war später Mitglied der High School Band. Nachdem er die Memphis State University abbrach, nahm er einen regulären Job bei einer Wasserpumpenfirma an.
Anfänge in Memphis
BearbeitenNach sechs Jahren gab er diesen Beruf jedoch wieder auf und war ab 1956 Studiomusiker bei Sun Records in Memphis. Neben Martin Willis und Bill Justis war Cannon der einzige Saxophonist, der für Sun arbeitete. „I always checked with 'em every morning, to see if anything was going on,“ („Jeden morgen kam ich, um zu gucken, ob es Arbeit für mich gab“) erinnerte sich Cannon später in einem Interview mit Gary James an diese Zeit. Bis 1959 spielte Cannon auf Sessions von Billy Lee Riley, Jerry Lee Lewis und vielen weiteren.
