Vorlage:Underconstruction This is the first step towards a worldwide project focussing on voices.

Have you ever felt embarrassed for not being able to pronounce someone's name correctly? Or for having to listen to others pronouncing your name wrongly because they didn't know better? Help to support others in such situations by uploading audio files registered by native speakers.

Just three steps to go: 1. Register names of people in your mother tongue. 2. Upload them to Wikimedia Commons. 3. Place the audio files into various Wikipedia articles in different language versions.

In detail: 1.

2.

3. Here are a few examples of syntax codes by which the audio file can be implemented into a Wikipedia article of the respective language version:

    1. German Wikipedia: anhören/?
    2. English Wikipedia: pronunciation/?
    3. Alemannic Wikipedia: aaloose/?
    4. Arabic Wikipedia: Vorlage:صوت
    5. Swedish Wikipedia: lyssna/?
    6. Spanish Wikipedia: pronunciación/?
    7. ... - feel free to complete the list with the syntax code of your Wikipedia.

FAQ:

1. Where exactly should I place the audio file in the Wikipedia article? As far as we can see, there are no strict rules about where to put it. Sometimes it is placed in front of the IPA, sometimes behind. To let people immediately know to pronounce the name they have just read, the place right behind the name might be the best choice.

2. How do we best deal with audio files for language versions where given names are placed behind family names, like Japanese? Example: It's Kyōko Aizome in the German Wikipedia, but the Japanese order is Aizome Kyōko.

Feel free to register both versions and integrate them into the Wikipedia articles at their respective places. Or choose just one of them, if you prefer.
