I am glad that they finally updated some of the inaccuracy's on this page.

Not only was he a sculpture, (both wood and stone) he was an accomplished painter, he also wrote music. He did quite a bit of work for the church (he wasnt exclusively a church artist) he did have a special love for the church.

the "adam and eve" he painted for the church brought him the homosexual accusations because he used "nude models" and painted them that way (this from a man with children) which is how they protested the painting (this painting was the parishioner falling out with him, even though he stayed firmly attached to the church)

he was always outspoken about the nazi regime and it brought him a lot of heartache, especially when the nazi regime checked his history and noted the accusations of homosexuality from his adam and eve painting.

He painted on the back of hitler poster (not the back of a church) because there was very little for him to create on during the war with restrictions on everything.

He did speak out about the nazi regime and it's inability to last, which did not go over well at a party with a confirmed nazi "artist" and her nazi associate.

Even while in the concentration camp (where he was injected with typhoid and died) he created a large multicolored cross out of the used wax from candles, (he was an artist first and formost)

An interesting personal story: while he served in ww1 he would cross the trenches in the dark to drink with the french soldiers (his french was perfect and as an artist he flippantly thought that the people who started the war should be the ones that fought it)
