Question

Would it be perhaps possible to have a membrane, which is permeable for hydrogen only (it might be also a metal like palladium), to separate the hydrogen from the water vapour and the oxygen?

Would it be perhaps possible, that this metal itself catalyses the water dissociation, so that behind that metal the hydrogen could be obtained, and the water vapour and the oxygen are left before that metal?

Then, a steady operation in the thermodynamic flow equilibrium would perhaps be possible at one non-altering high temperature. At the first moment, the metal would be covered by an oxygen layer, but in the steady state, this layer would be in equilibrium with the free oxygen, which itself can not penetrate the metal. The hydrogen could then be continuously pumped away from the backside of the membrane.

Please tell me your opinion of this idea. (nicht signierter Beitrag von 139.18.84.73 (Diskussion) 09:02, 2. Aug. 2007)
