Zur landesweiten Umbenennung von Ortsnamen kann ich sagen: Bis jetzt ist sie vor allem noch Theorie, die praktische Umsetzung ist z.B. in Pietersburg noch nicht erfolgt, jedenfalls nicht bis September 2005, da war ich nämlich in genau diesem Ort und da hieß er eindeutig noch Pietersburg, der Name Polokwane tauchte offiziell (z.B. Ortsschild) noch nicht auf.

Der Flughafen heißt jedenfalls Ende 2006 offiziell Polokwane Airport, wie ich persönlich in Augenschein nehmen konnte. Kksen 18:12, 13. Jan. 2007 (CET)

Polokwane >> Pietersburg

Polokwane has been moved to Pietersburg on both English and Afrikaans wikipedia (two of the official languages) and since these two are far close to German than the other south african languages, I suggest that this wikipedia does the same. --86.132.72.141 16:26, 28. Aug. 2009 (CEST)

As of November 2009, further discussion and investigation at the English Wikipedia have resulted in the English article being relocated back to Polokwane, in accordance with the town's official renaming in 2005 and, more importantly, its current treatment in the global news media and other encyclopedias, the large majority of which now call it Polokwane. One or two Afrikaners have apparently been trying to use Wikipedia to push a political agenda, rather than to simply reflect common global usage. As discussed at the English Wikipedia, "Pietersburg" has fallen out of usage among reliable sources, except when it is to say "Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg)." Und das Kaff hat übrigens mehr Einwohner als Regensburg. :-) Seid auch mal n büschn vorsichtig bei euren Begriffen. Ich weiß, das war einfach eine flapsige Bemerkung, aber bei Südafrika und Kaff kommt auch schnell mal die Assoziation Kaffer--Proofreader 13:03, 20. Nov. 2010 (CET)
