Industriegeschichte

Erwähnenswert ist möglicherweise, dass Gilbarco seine Wurzeln in Springfield hat oder dass das erste in den USA gebaute und verkaufte Automobil (Duryea, 1893) in Springfield (Chicopee) entstand. Die Stadt war ein frühes Zentrum im Automobilbau (Stevens-Duryea, Skene, Knox). Von 1901-1953 wurden die legendären Indian Motorräder in Springfield gebaut. --Chief tin cloud 11:47, 20. Von 1921-1932 unterhielt Rolls-Royce ein Zweigwerk in Springfield (das einzige ausserhalb von GB in seiner Geschichte) und baute hier an die USA angepasste Versionen der grossen Modelle 40/50 HP "Silver Ghost", (New) Phantom und Phantom II. --Chief tin cloud 12:46, 20. Feb. 2011 (CET)

Mein Deutsch ist ganz schlect, so auf English: This article - auf Deutsch - does not mention the most important information about Springfield, Mass. Specifically, that for over 200 years Springfield was home to the Springfield Armory (aka Arsenal at Springfield,) the U.S. National Armory founded by George Washington in 1777. (It was closed by the Pentagon during the Vietnam War in 1968.) Most of America's "waffen" production happened there for over 200 years - the Springfield rifle, the Garand rifle, the M-1, the M-16.

As of 2011, the Springfield Armory is a U.S. National Park and U.S. National Historic site -- one of the only places in the States with both designations.

Also, this article misses very important details about the city's history. In 1844, Charles Goodyear invented and patented vulcanized rubber in Springfield; in 1806, Noah Webster published the first American-English dictionary in Springfield - and today, it continues to be published in Springfield by Merriam-Webster; MOST IMPORTANTLY, the first U.S. gasoline-powered automobile came from Springfield, (1892-1893 Duryea Brothers.) The world's first modern gasoline-powered fire engine came from Springfield (Knox Automobile, 1905.) The first successful motorcycle business also came from Springfield -- "Indian" motorcycle.
