My German is pretty poor, but even I can tell that the automatic English translation of this article is mostly gibberish. It's sad, because the English Wikipedia for some reason only includes an article on the Neue Liebeslieder, and some of the information in the German text of this entry would help to clarify it, if properly translated. Surely all Brahms said was that he would look an ass if not even a few people liked these pieces. They are in waltz or landler time (not "clock" - this misunderstanding is the basis of a joke in the film "Casablanca" in 1944). It's useful that the German specifically says they can be done by a chorus, as this is a point in dispute in the English article on the Neue Liebeslieder. The next sentence would be better as " With one exception the lyrics are from Georg Friedrich Daumer's collection "Polydora", which consists of freely adapted folk poems from a number of different countries".
it might go on "Brahms sets poems based on Russian, Polish, and Hungarian originals" But after that, neither the English version, nor the German original make any sense to me. The information about an partial orchestral version published in the early 20th century would be very useful if it could be presented in English. 17:25, 31. Okt. 2012 (CET)~ Delahays
