Hallo Max,

beim Versuch, das mit der "Kategorie" hinzubekommen, habe ich es jetzt schon zweimal geschafft, meinen bisherigen Text zu löschen. Ich finde den richtigen Weg nicht und verstehe die Hilfe nicht. Wie lege ich das mit der Kategorie an?

Bei anderer Gelegenheit habe ich meinen Text auch schon gelöscht. Kann man den irgendwie "zwischenspeichern"?

Der erste Themenabend am 16. Dezember geht rund um das Arbeiten auf mobilen Endgeräten: Die Nutzung der mobilen Wikipedia-Versionen wächst seit Jahren stetig – doch viele erfahrene WikipedianerInnen arbeiten fast ausschließlich am Desktop und kennen diese Welt nur wenig. Da auch das Editieren aus diesen Apps mittlerweile immer mehr andere Arbeitsmodi verdrängt, wird es Zeit diese Oberflächen genauer anzusehen. In diesem Vortrag erkunden wir die mobile Wikipedia aus der Perspektive eingefleischter Desktop-NutzerInnen und stellen zahlreiche Funktionen vor, die momentan nur in den Apps verfügbar sind.

Zum Jahresende laden wir euch am 18. Dezember herzlich zu unserem letzten Digitalen Themenstammtisch des Jahres 2024 ein. Wir wollen gemeinsam auf das Jahr 2024 in der Wikipedia zurückblicken. Was waren die wichtigsten Entwicklungen, Diskussionen und Ereignisse?

Freut euch auf spannende 5-Minuten-Vorträge, die von einer Vielzahl bekannter Wikipedianer zu verschiedenen Themen präsentiert werden. Die kurzen Beiträge bieten einen abwechslungsreichen Überblick, und es bleibt natürlich ausreichend Zeit, um Fragen zu stellen und gemeinsam zu diskutieren.

Wir hoffen, dass für alle Teilnehmenden etwas Interessantes dabei ist – sei es ein neuer Denkanstoß, ein Rückblick auf bekannte Ereignisse oder ein inspirierender Austausch mit der Community. Lasst euch überraschen und uns gemeinsam mit Ziko das Jahr abschließen!

Events

• Past: Amical Wikimedia, the Catalan-language and culture focused thematic Wikimedia Organization organized the Celebrem Wikidata (Let's celebrate Wikidata) project to celebrate Wikidata's 12th anniversary, from November 10 - 30. This included a Wikidata introduction workshop to equip participants with the editing skills to tackle the project's main aim. This was presented as a game to delete duplicate info on Wikidata and Catalan Viquipèdia infoboxes, in three areas: protected buildings, officers' positions and data related to sports teams players. At the end of the event, ~200 Wikidata-fed infoboxes and Wikidata items were improved and many Wikipedia editors edited Wikidata for the first time!
• Upcoming events:
  • (Deutsch)Wikidata for Legal Historians - Tue. 10 December, 3pm - 7pm (UTC+1). This presentation explores Wikidata as a key platform for LOD, explains its Semantic Web foundation, introduces FactGrid (a Wikidata-based platform for historical research). The aim is to improve data quality by focusing on ensuring all items have essential properties like "instance of" (P31) or "subclass of" (P279), adding relevant country and location data, and maintaining consistency within item series.

Digitaler Themenabend: Neuer Name für bewährtes Format

Hallo Kristbaum,

Der beliebte Digitale Themenstammtisch (DTS) der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia-Community erhält einen neuen Namen. Ab sofort wird die Veranstaltungsreihe unter der Bezeichnung "Digitaler Themenabend (DTA)" fortgeführt. Diese Umbenennung spiegelt den Charakter der Treffen besser wider und macht das Format für Neulinge zugänglicher.

Seit seiner Gründung im April 2020 hat sich der DTS als feste Größe im Kalender der Wikipedia-Gemeinschaft etabliert. Ursprünglich als Reaktion auf die Pandemie ins Leben gerufen, hat sich das Format zu einer beliebten Plattform für den Austausch über Wikipedia und verwandte Themen entwickelt. Der Digitale Themenabend behält alle geschätzten Eigenschaften des bisherigen Formats bei.

Bewährtes Konzept, neuer Name:

• Regelmäßige Online-Treffen zu spezifischen Themen, ob als Vortrag oder Workshop
• Niedrigschwelliger Zugang ohne Anmeldung oder spezielle Software
• Offenheit für alle Interessierten, unabhängig von Wikipedia-Erfahrung
• Möglichkeit der Diskussion und des Austausches

Der Begriff „Stammtisch“ ist zwar als Bezeichnung für Treffen von Wikipedianern ein Begriff, wird aber häufig mit einem informellen, geselligen Treffen zum sozialen Austausch in Verbindung gebracht. Ziel des Themenabends ist aber die Fokussierung auf die inhaltliche Auseinandersetzung mit einem bestimmten Thema.

Wer im politischen Feld unterwegs ist, kommt um das Thema „KI“ kaum herum. Auffällig dabei ist, dass – anders als z.B. in wissenschaftlichen Diskussionen – der Begriff dort häufig recht undifferenziert verwendet wird und sich teilweise realistische Einschätzungen mit total überzogenen Erwartungen vermischen. „KI“ ist daher häufig mehr eine Projektionsfläche für Wünsche und Vorstellungen, quasi eine magische Automatisierungswolke, die in Kürze alles können wird.

Wikimedia Deutschland hat sich 2024 immer wieder Zeit genommen, um verschiedene Facetten dieser Diskussionen zu analysieren. Menschen aus dem WMDE-Kollegium sind von Kaninchenbau zu Kaninchenbau gehüpft, haben Literatur der letzten Jahrzehnte gewälzt, die Geschichte der KI-Forschung mit den verschiedenen „Geschmacksrichtungen“ bzw. Strömungen für die teaminterne Wissensbildung aufbereitet – und sich dann an die Kartierung der Frage gemacht, welche Auswirkungen „KI“ und die Diskussionen darüber auf Freies Wissen insgesamt haben könnten.

Neben dem kritischen Blick auf Folgen für Wikipedia und die Wikiprojekte selbst, der vielfach bereits aus der aktiven Community kam, bedeutet das beispielsweise: Was heißt es, wenn der Staat bevorzugt auf generative KI setzt? Gibt es bessere Alternativen, vielleicht sogar inspiriert durch Wikiprojekte wie Wikidata? Welche Pfadabhängigkeiten könnten nun festgegossen werden, was bedeutet das für bestehende politische Beschlüsse z.B. zu Klimazielen? Wie ändern Diskussionen rund um das Training generativer KI unsere Ansichten zum Urheberrecht? Kann es überhaupt so etwas wie „Open-Source-KI“ geben? Und über allem schwebt die Frage: Welche Auswirkungen – sowohl mögliche Verbesserungen als auch mögliche Verschlechterungen – könnte dies alles auf den künftigen Zugang zu Freiem Wissen haben, vor allem als möglichst gut wiederverwendbare Quellen für die Wikiprojekte?

Die Diskussion bei WMDE ist noch nicht in der ganzen Breite abgeschlossen, der Einblick von Stefan Kaufmann (WMDE) ist nur ein Zwischenstand – vor allem auch, um Feedback einzuholen, was noch auf dem Radar fehlen könnte oder welche Aspekte eine tiefere Diskussion verdienen könnten.

Bei unserem nächsten Digitalen Themenabend am 28. Januar 2025 widmen wir uns dem spannenden Thema der Datenvisualisierung und wie aus Tabellen wirkungsvolle Diagramme entstehen.

Inhalte des Abends:

Formate und ihre Stärken/Schwächen:

• Balkendiagramme, Säulendiagramme, Liniendiagramme und Kreisdiagramme im Vergleich: Wann eignet sich welches Format? Welche Vor- und Nachteile bringen sie mit sich?

Datenquellen und Validität:

• Warum es entscheidend ist, die Quellen der Rohdaten zu kennen und ihre Qualität und Vertrauenswürdigkeit einzuschätzen.

Erklärung und Interpretation, Korrelation vs. Kausalität:

• Warum sollten Diagramme im Text zusätzlich verständlich erklärt und interpretiert werden? Warum sind auch hierzu Quellen sinnvoll?
• Ungewöhnliche Effekte bedürfen besonderer Aufmerksamkeit und natürlich geeignete Quellen zur Interpretation!
• Warum eine gute Korrelation nicht automatisch eine Ursache-Wirkungs-Beziehung bedeutet – und wie man diese Falle vermeidet.

Vergleich mehrerer Datensätze:

Umfrage Technische Wünsche: Das Gewinnerthema steht fest

Frohes neues Jahr von den Technischen Wünschen! Vielen Dank, dass du im Dezember bei der Technische-Wünsche-Umfrage-2024 mitgemacht hast. Gewonnen hat ein Thema, für das du selbst auch als eine deiner Top5-Prioritäten abgestimmt hast: Einzelnachweise! Auf der Projektseite des Themenschwerpunkts werden in Zukunft alle wichtigen Schritte und Erkenntnisse dokumentiert.

Wie das Ergebnis ermittelt wurde, ist auf dieser Seite detailliert beschrieben.

Mit diesem Themenschwerpunkt wird sich das Team Technische Wünsche für zwei Jahre beschäftigen und dort Verbesserungen umsetzen. Als Erstes ist eine Recherchephase vorgesehen, in der ermittelt wird, was die dringendsten Probleme in diesem Bereich sind.

Möglicherweise wunderst du dich, warum wir so viele Nachrichten zur Umfrage verschicken. Die Umfrage Technische Wünsche ist eine große Veranstaltung, die etwa alle zwei Jahre stattfindet. Und je mehr Leute mitmachen, desto aussagekräftiger ist das Ergebnis und unsere Legitimation, Verbesserungen für die Community. Jetzt wo die Umfrage vorbei ist, endet auch die Werbung für die Umfrage. Aber: Um sicherzustellen, dass die Verbesserungen in diesem Bereich auch sinnvoll und nutzbar sind, ist das Projektteam auf Feedback angewiesen. Dazu wird es immer mal wieder Gelegenheit geben, beispielsweise wenn Rechercheergebnisse vorliegen, Ideen für Lösungsansätze oder auch fertige Funktionen.

Ein Ziel des Projekts Technische Wünsche ist es, die Meinungen und Vorstellungen möglichst vieler unterschiedlicher Personen aus verschiedenen Bereichen und mit unterschiedlichen Arbeitsweisen zu beachten. Schließlich soll die Software so weiterentwickelt werden, dass alle davon profitieren. Automoderator ist ein automatisiertes Antivandalismus-Tool, das von der Wikimedia Foundation entwickelt wird. Das Tool basiert auf der Grundlage eines maschinellen Lernmodells (KI) und bewertet die Bearbeitungen von Artikeln. Abhängig von der Bewertung können Bearbeitungen rückgängig gemacht werden, was die Eingangskontrolle entlasten soll. Seit Mitte 2023 wird es in einigen Wikipedia-Sprachversionen eingesetzt.

In verschiedenen Projekten der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia gab es hierzu auch bereits intensive Diskussionen über Sinn und Unsinn, Ängste und Bedenken, das deutsche System der Sichtungen, Wikipedia-Regeln und vieles mehr. Dabei stellt sich heraus, dass viele das Projekt nicht oder nur vom Hörensagen kennen. Sam Walton (Produktmanager für das Moderator-Tool-Team bei der Wikimedia Foundation) hat sich bereiterklärt, das Tool im Rahmen des Digitalen Themenabends der deutschen Community vorzustellen und uns über den Stand des Projekts zu informieren. Die Teilnehmer haben im Anschluss die Möglichkeit Fragen zu stellen und aus erster Hand Antworten zu bekommen.

Für diesen Themenabend eine Simultanübersetzung mit professionellen Übersetzern geplant und diese Veranstaltung wird aufgezeichnet. Nähere Infos hierzu auf WP:DTA, wo auch die Anmeldung erfolgt.

Von 1908 bis 2005 hat das “Hamburgische Welt-Wirtschafts-Archiv” systematisch Presseveröffentlichungen ausgewertet und viele -zig-tausend thematische Dossiers geführt - keineswegs nur zu Wirtschaftsthemen (Hintergrund). Es verfolgte über 1600 Publikationen aus der ganzen Welt. Mehr als 5 Millionen Artikel bis 1960 wurden digitalisiert, bis 1949 ist das Material ohne Anmeldung im Web zugänglich. Die Dossiers sind mit Wikidata verknüpft, das auch zur Rechercheunterstützung genutzt wird. Während Personen und Firmen so relativ einfach zu finden sind (wir zeigen, wie!), geben wir für das eigenständige Warenarchiv und den riesigen Bestand an Länder-/Sachthemen einen Einstieg in Struktur des Archivs. Darüber hinaus stellen wir die Arbeit des Wikipedia-Projekts Pressearchiv zur weiteren Erschließung des Materials vor, und geben Hinweise zum Zugriff auf Materialien nach 1949.

Für wen ist dieser Abend gedacht? Alle, die zu Themen recherchieren, über die in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts in der Presse berichtet wurde, die auf öffentlich zugängliche Quellen verlinken oder sich von Zufallsfunden in den Dossiers anregen lassen wollen.

• We (Peter F. Patel-Schneider and Egezort) want to run a course on the Wikidata Ontology for a limited number of participants. Designed for those already familiar with Wikidata, it will present information about ontologies and how they form the core of Wikidata, incorporating several exercises on analyses of and fixes to the Wikidata ontology. Upon successful completion (ending with a group project in consultation by us), participants will receive certificates. Please give feedback and suggestions to improve the structure and course content (found in more detail at WikiProject:Ontology Course) which will be incorporated into our Wikimedia rapid grant application to support the effort. • Several database changes will impact Wikidata in the coming months, including the migration of the term store (wbt_ tables) to a dedicated cluster to improve performance and enable future growth. This move will speed up most Wikidata SQL queries but prevent direct joins between term store data and other Wikidata tables. Additionally, the wb_type table will be removed, with its mapping hardcoded in Wikibase, simplifying the codebase. More details.
